Back in August, Cloudflare — the backbone powering much of the internet — banned Perplexity AI from its global network. The reason? Perplexity was accused of using stealth crawlers that bypassed website restrictions, ignored robots.txt, and disguised themselves as normal browsers like Chrome to scrape data undetected. As a result, Cloudflare removed Perplexity from its verified bot list and rolled out new blocking rules to prevent similar hidden scraping across its massive infrastructure.
