Let me explain—step by step. 1️⃣ The Myth of “Doctor Shortage” vs Ground Reality On paper, India needs more doctors. On the ground, fresh MBBS doctors are struggling to find dignified work. • India produces 1,00,000+ MBBS graduates every year • Medical colleges have crossed 780 • Government recruitment hasn’t scaled proportionally • In many states, posts are frozen for years Result? • 300–500 applicants for one MO post • Salaries of ₹35k–45k even after clearing exams • Private hospitals offering ₹15k–30k/month to fresh graduates anymore. 2️⃣ Urban Saturation, Rural Neglect We often hear: “Doctors don’t want to work in villages.” But that’s only half the story. Reality: • 74% of doctors work in urban India • They serve only 28% of the population • Rural PHCs lack: • Staff • Equipment • Security • Housing • Even basic utilities So what happens? • Doctors avoid rural postings • Cities become oversaturated • Salaries drop further due to replaceability 3️⃣ MBBS Is No Longer a “Complete” Degree This is something no one tells aspirants clearly. In 2025: 👉 MBBS alone is not enough. • UG : PG seat ratio ≈ 3 : 1 • Majority of graduates must: • Repeat NEET-PG multiple times • Put life on hold for 5–10 years • Study without income stability Without PG: • No authority • No growth • No financial respect 4️⃣ The Silent Rise of Ayurveda & “Mixopathy” This is the most sensitive—but unavoidable—topic. Across India: • AYUSH doctors are increasingly: • Managing OPDs • Handling emergencies • Doing procedures • Especially in rural and semi-urban setups Why? • Lower salaries • Easier availability • Government support 5️⃣ Policy Direction Is Changing (Quietly) Look closely at recent trends: • Expansion of AYUSH institutes • Integration of traditional medicine • Less aggressive expansion of allopathic infrastructure The signal is subtle but clear: Solve doctor shortage cheaply, not structurally. #mbbs #medicine
