"I can't send you the offer letter until you accept the salary." If a recruiter says this to you, DO NOT say "Okay." 🚩 Don't accept the salary. Say this instead: "I appreciate that. Before I can accept, I need to see the full offer in writing—including the base salary, bonus structure, benefits, equity, and any other compensation details. Once I have the complete picture, I'll be able to make an informed decision." Here's why this works: 1. You're not being difficult. You're being professional. Any legitimate company will provide a written offer before expecting acceptance. If they won't, that's a red flag. 2. You're protecting yourself. Verbal offers mean nothing. People "misremember" numbers. Promises disappear. Get it in writing or it doesn't exist. 3. You're maintaining your negotiating power. The moment you verbally accept, you've lost leverage. They know you're committed, and they have no reason to budge. 4. You're setting the tone for how you'll be treated. If they pressure you into accepting before seeing the offer, imagine how they'll treat you once you're hired. This is a test of boundaries. A company that respects you will respect this request. If they push back, get defensive, or try to rush you—that tells you everything you need to know about working there. Never accept a salary you haven't seen in writing. Ever. Your career. Your terms. 💼 Follow me for more negotiation strategies that actually work! 🚀 Comment YES to join my free community where we break down real-world negotiation tactics.
